Every major medical and health authority in the world agrees the poisons in secondhand tobacco smoke (SHS) exposure have the same effect on nonsmokers as smoking does—heart attacks, lung cancer, asthma and other breathing problems.
Food/Beverage servers have the greatest risk of developing heart disease and cancer compared to other occupations. Levels of secondhand tobacco smoke in restaurants are 1.6 to 6 times higher than in office workplaces. ALL WORKPLACES WHICH PERMIT SMOKING ARE DANGEROUS FOR EMPLOYEES WHO WORK THERE.
Health benefits of smoke-free policies include: (1) more smokers successfully quitting; (2) smokers consuming fewer cigarettes; (3) fewer children starting to smoke; and (4) nonsmokers protected from the hazardous toxins in secondhand smoke; (5) Safer workplaces with healthier employees and more profitable businesses!
I EITHER LIVE, WORK, REGULARLY DO BUSINESS OR GO TO SCHOOL IN THE CITY OF SOMERSET AND I AM ASKING YOU TO PLEASE PASS A “CLEAN INDOOR AIR” ORDINANCE REGULATING SMOKING IN ALL WORKPLACES AND PUBLIC SPACES WITHIN THE CITY. THANK YOU!
